World Malayali Council (WMC), California, would like to invite you all to our Mega Onam celebration on Aug 31st at the Orchard City Banquet Hall in Campbell.

Pookalam Competition Rules for Onam 

Team

   The team can consist of a maximum of 5 members, male or female.

Materials $ Tools

1. Participants are required to provide their own flowers or any other materials to be used for the competition.

2. No expense reimbursement from WMC

3. You can use fresh flowers, colored rice/coconut, sawdust, and leaves to make pookalam.

4. Salt or colored powder is NOT allowed

5. The pookalam should have a circular design/or have a circular outline with diameter not to exceed 1.5m

6. Teams should bring the design drawn on paper or poster boards. Drawing on the floor is not allowed.

7. After the completion, the teams should clean the surroundings and make it ready for judging

8. No other decoration items like Nirapara, vilakku, statues, diya allowed. 

Competition Time

1. Time allotment for the competition is 1.5 hours.

2. Competition start at 9am sharp and ends at 10:30am

3. In addition to this, 15 min will be given for cleaning up and winding up. 

4. Going beyond 10:30am will result in a penalty of 5 points per 5 min, which will be subtracted from the total score. (Maximum score is 100 points)
